11.10.09-11.11.09 | Various Times
I went to North Ave and did several 2-5 minute observation periods. The North Avenue apartments courtyard is (at least in this cold and rainy weather) used primarily as a walkway and nothing more. Students can be seen going to and from the bus stops. Most conversations take place at the bus stops while waiting. No one lingered in the courtyard to converse, though some stopped at the entrance of the apartment buildings briefly. Most paid little notice to me observing and kept to the sidewalks still due to the rain and muddy courtyard. The courtyard is busiest during the 10-15 minute periods before classes start as students rush to get to the bus stops, but even then most stay in groups of 2-3 and go straight from the dorms to the bus stops. It would be very interesting to place objects in the environment that were more obtrusive in order to slow students and grab attention.
